Mamiya Pistol Camera
An exceptionally rare and iconic half-frame 35 mm camera, ingeniously designed in the form of a handgun and using standard 35 mm film cassettes. The Mamiya Pistol Camera was produced in very limited numbers specifically for the Japanese police and was primarily intended for covert surveillance, notably for discreetly photographing demonstrators.
The present example is preserved in beautiful condition and retains the original Japanese police emblem, still intact and well defined — a highly significant feature, as most known surviving examples were deliberately defaced during official decommissioning.
Production is estimated at approximately 300 units, the majority of which were officially destroyed only a few years after manufacture. As a result, authentic and complete examples are among the rarest and most sought-after Japanese cameras of the post-war era.
A remarkable historical artifact and a true centerpiece for any advanced camera or espionage-related Collection.
