In 1932, Leica produced a small number of screw-mount lenses, including the 10.5cm “Mountain” Elmar, the 9cm Fat Elmar, and the 9cm f/4 Elmar.
Within this early production, a highly distinctive and extremely limited series was introduced, beginning with serial numbers in the 136xxx range. It is believed that only approximately 90 examples were manufactured, all bearing serial numbers suffixed with the letter “A”.
According to expert opinion, the suffix “A” stands for “angemeldet” (registered). This indicates that a patent relating to the lens or its coupling system had already been applied for, but had not yet been officially granted at the time the engraving was made.
The offered lens, serial no. 136182A, is in very good, near-mint condition and comes complete with caps and the original box.
